The Story
Ziggy Re-blooming Bearded Iris (Iris germanica) is a fiesta in a flower. Its sunny yellow standards (upright petals) light up the intense purple and white of the falls (drooping petals) for a summer wake up that is hard to beat. Re-blooming and sweetly fragrant, it is low care, deer resistant and water thrifty. Cut or pop off spent blooms once they are done and cut back the leaves to six-inch fans after the first frost. They multiply and spread as the years pass too, so every 4 years or so, after flowering, cut them back, and gently dig them up. Divide the rhizomes so each has some leaves and replant, relocate, gift and trade for new varieties and colors. It’s part of the fun of gardening with Bearded Iris!
