The Story
Longwood Blue Caryopteris, a selection of the already classic Bluebeard Shrub, was made at the renowned Longwood Gardens for its improved, upright habit as well as a longer season of bloom and more silver-green leaf compared to other available cultivars. Together, these traits give 'Longwood Blue' a more refined appearance; from a distance, a mass planting or row of these plants can have an almost ethereal, hazy quality to it between the fuzzy-looking, blue-purple flowers and silvery foliage. The refined features of this plant also make it adaptable in cultural requirements and aesthetic pairings.
Since Caryopteris flower on new wood they can be sheared back by 1/3 or all the way to the ground in spring to refresh their appearance if they look tired or overgrown. A bee favorite.
