The Story

Few plants can be grown in as many different sun, soil, and soil moisture ranges as Cushion Spurge. Equally at home in a sunny border and in part shade, the plant flowers all the same in mid-late spring, topping its rounded form in flat, bracted flower clusters in acid yellow and chartreuse. Excellent as part of a late-spring show with cushion phlox or shade plants like Brunnera, Cushion Spurge makes an easy “doer” that looks good all season, and is a particularly good addition to part shade and dappled light spaces under trees.

Prefers slightly more irrigation in sunny sites and grows well with less in afternoon shade where its bright flowers really glow. Self-sows modestly in favorable sites; apply mulch to 3” deep or deadhead plants to minimize this tendency. Drought-tolerant.
