Blooming from late spring through the summer with short spikes of violet-blue flowers that attract butterflies, self-heal is an Old World plant traditionally used to treat skin injuries and other maladies. Prunella grows best in average to moist soils and is invaluable for stabilizing soil on slopes and bare areas. Best planted among taller perennials as it will overrun small, slower growing neighboring plants.
